Forgotten News 1997

December 3, 1997
  • I've transcribed the lyrics for 'Angry' and 'Behind Bars'. If you have time could you type one up that I don't have?
  • Shhh... don't tell anyone I told you this but on the re-issue of 'Tomorrow Belongs To Us' during a live show taped in 1980 he reveals that it's his 24th birthday! (You do the math)
    November 26, 1997
  • Hey all, long time no update. I'll try and keep it more up to date. Sorry for the long delay in updates. There really hasn't been any news but I should put up all the info I've been neglecting to put up.

  • Please send in your comments on this release and I will post them for all to see.
    August 20, 1997
  • The Pride And Disgrace lyrics are finally posted. Thanks to John Beswick for transcribing the rantings of Mickey. The lyric sheet was never made for this album, am I correct? Anyway, not all of the songs are transcribed but most of them are. Please feel free to make corrections to the lyrics or add new ones!
  • Hey hey, long time now play. Two new gigs have been added to the Gigs section (A Halloween One! Please send me a review on this one please!)
    August 17, 1997
  • I've added a new video to the trading section.
  • I've added a few new names to the The Band section. A proper dated tree format will follow with the next update.
  • Mickey was in three other bands before F.R.'s. The name of these bands were Black Curtain (1974), Damien (1975), Slippery When Wet (1976). I have much more information on these bands but as I don't have much time for this update I will update the page again very soon.
  • Word on a new (new to us) CD being put out by Dionysus/Bacchus Archives called "Executive Outcomes". This CD contains unreleased demos from "In Love With the System" songs and a live recording made at Banister's in Hamilton in February 1980. Its release date, quoted from CDNow and Music Boulevard is August 26, 1997, but other sources have said closer to Sept/Oct. It should tide us over until the F.R.'s new album! (See next news item). The songs on "Executive Outcomes" are In Love With The System/You're A Rebel Too/The Punks Are Alright/Time To Run (Basement demos, Aug./Sept. '79)/They're Coming To Take Me Away/I Left My Heart In Iran/I Think Of Her/Fuck me Dead/Bomb The Boats (And Feed The Fish)/Rich & Bored/Elvis Is Dead/Bones In The Hallway/Nazis/You're A Rebel, Too/Time To Run (live at Bannister's, Feb. 9, 1980). So all in all one new song, I can't wait to hear Mickey sing "They're Coming to Take Me Away"! (Ho ho, he he, ha ha, to the funny farm).
  • Yes, we are getting very close to a new Forgotten Rebels album! I have gotten word from Jeff that they have all the songs ready to record and they are shopping around for a label. They won't be playing live until the CD is out (except to practice the new songs a bit). I don't have a working title for the album or any songs titles yet but I will keep you informed.
  • Updated the Discography with "Executive Outcomes"
  • Chaz update: "The last I heard Chaz is still doing the AC/DC stuff and he has a band out of Montreal, playing guitar and singing .That was about 8 months ago ." - E-mailed to me June 19th

    May 21, 1997
  • I revised and organized the reviews section to include album reviews along with the gig reviews and I've added a couple to both!
  • As the people on the e-mail list know. Our beloved web page was in the newspaper in Hamilton. Bruce Mowat of the Hamilton Spectator mentioned us about a week ago in the paper as follows:
    Forgotten Rebels
    www.aceventures.com/ace/rebel/
    (L,N)
A page run by James O'Brien, a Vancouver native and a fan of the veteran
Hamilton punk outfit who keeps a close watch on Rebel movements.
Lots of facts, gossip, and the guitar tabs to such Forgotten favourites as
    Angry.

  • New gig date posted! Hurry it's London, Ontario on Friday May 23rd at the Embassy.
  • Big updates in the trading section! Many goodies available to trade or buy now for the collect all kind of FR fan! Get em while they last.
  • I have recently learned the Star Records will be soon dubbing the CD for our favorite FR album - "This Ain't Hollywood". I will keep you posted on the progress of this as time passes.

    May 11, 1997
  • Add the lyrics to the album 'Surfin' On Heroin'!
  • "Tommorrow Belongs to Us" is still not released due to the Rebels having trouble getting the rights to release some of the material. But here is what is going to be on it: The 1978 4-song EP, The S&M Records "Smut" 12", Their first 8-song demo "Burn the Flag" (I thought it was only FOUR!) and some live tracks. Sound good enough to make you mouth water doesn't it!!
  • The news on the new album by the FR is that they are going to work on some more new songs in the summer (other than the one 'Shame On You') and will probably release in the fall or spring, hopefully with a tour.
  • I got a way better scan of the Trudeau picture (from the In Love With The System LP insert, thanks Sandee!!) and replaced the old one in the pictures section.
  • The lyrics for 'Bones In The Hallway' have been added to the 'In Love With The System' lyrics and many many many many mistakes have been corrected from lyric insert on the LP thanks to Sandee again!!
  • Hey, hey, hey. Cool info. I'm sure we've all heard the song 'Rhona Barrett' a lot of times but I just found out the meaning behind the song. I got an e-mail from Bruce Mowat of the Hamilton Spectator explaining the songs meaning. The song basically documents a frat party featuring the band the Urge to which Mickey and his friends were at and I believe they were listening to Bruce Mowat on the radio (he was on Friday nights on Mac radio) and they were "rockin' with Brucie on the radio.". Just an interesting tidbit I thought you might like to know.
  • The trading section is up and if you have anything to offer in it, don't hesitate to e-mail me telling me all the info and I will post it for the people.

    April 14, 1997
  • Show review from March 3rd, 1997 at Mrs. Robinson's in Kitchner by Vic!
  • More organized and updated lyrics section. Complete lyrics from our favorite, 'This Ain't Hollywood'!!
  • Scanned the cover from The Pride And Disgrace for the Discography section. (Yes I will be rescanning the other ones, they are horrible scans.)
  • Hey you guitarist out there, a new Tab for Autosuck in the files section
  • From what I've been hearing, we can expect the following albums to come out anytime soon: Tommorrow Belongs To Us, This Ain't Hollywood..., and maybe a new album (although they've only played one new song so far in their gigs)
  • I don't know if I've mentioned this before but the drums for the rerelease of The Pride And Disgrace were rerecorded for the CD. Since the FR's drummer is still the same one that was on that album (over 10 years ago) they were able to clean up the drums on it. I just remembered this and I'll have to relisten to both versions to see if I can tell the difference.

    March 12, 1997
  • Lots of updates!
  • As you can see by the logo on the front page, I have been chosen to win the Punx Not Dead Best Punk Site on the Web. I had no idea that I was getting this award, it was totally out of the blue. Anyway, I am totally flattered by this award and I'd like to thank the band that inspired the web page, The Forgotten Rebels! I'd also like to thank all the people that have contributed to the web page and helped me out with the info that I was missing.
  • I've made a category for the Forgotten Rebels E-Mail List if anybody would like to join in on the discussion about the band. You'll also get e-mailed anytime the web page is updated! Just click on E-Mail List on the menu column.
  • Jeff Campbell says that the live album in the works will probably not be released under Magnetic Air and will probably not be released until they find a new label. :(
  • Areas that have been updated are gigs, discography, pictures, rumors (oh ya, I've added that category too), and contributors
  • I've also added a reviews section so that people can submit their reviews of albums and shows that they have seen.

    March 4, 1997
  • Check out the lyrics section for all the lyrics from 'In Love With The System' album.
  • The Forgotten Rebels E-Mail List has been launched! On this list you can discuss anything to do with Forgotten Rebels. Talk about gigs you've seen, your favorite songs, or the first time you heard the band. E-mail me to sign up!

    February 27, 1997
  • Yet another rebel has left the line up like so many before him. Chaz Butcher has been replaced with Steve Mahon from Teenage Head. There are no details right now on why Chaz left (or was kicked out of) the band. Please e-mail me if any info comes to light!
  • The re-release of Tommorrow Belongs to Us has finished being remastered and remixed by Chris Spedding. If anybody would like to give a review of it or any other album please submit them to me
  • I've just learned from a source that Mickey's favorite daytime show is Y & R. "It's better than wresling" he says.
  • I've added some new gig dates to the Gigs section and updated 'The Band' section.
  • I'm thinking of starting up a F.R.'s e-mail list so that the F.R.'s fans can keep up on current news. Please e-mail me if you think this is a good idea and maybe I'll start one.
