Forgotten News 1998

News Update - December 6, 1998

  • Big update to the F.R.'s tribute album along with an extension to the submission date.

  • Brado also adds that there's talk of a mixed bag of former FORGOTTEN REBEL's members contributing covers to the album. Negotiations are underway between now and the next few months as to who/how the album will be released.

    News Update - November 24, 1998

  • I now own the F.R.'s first album! I bought 'Tomorrow Belongs To Us' through Luc-A. Lavioe for $150 CDN. The record itself is in NM condition with no fading and looks likes it's been played a couple of times with minor minor scratches. The record sleeve is in a little worse condition with some yellowing of the white cover but no bends or major problems with it. I just love it! Thanks again to Luc-A!!

The following is a F.R.'s wish list of mine if anybody can help me out:
    - Burn The Flag (Limited 100 Cassette)
    - Bomb Khadaffi Now (7" Single)
    - Surfin' On Heroin (12")
    - (Untitled) (12")
    - Criminal Zero (12" Does this exist?)
    - F.R.'s coffee mug (as featured in MuchMusic interview)

  • I've added a couple of new links to the links section of the site, you can figure them out if you like.
If you know any pages with F.R.'s info or links to me, tell me about it! EMail: jeobrien@aceventures.com

  • The Forgotten Rebels Tribute CD may be pushed back to Fall '99, but the official word is not in yet. If it is pushed back that will give my lazy ass some more time to finish recording songs for it. As of now I just finished my horrid rendition of 'Don't Hide Your Face'. I may make it available on the page if I feel brave one day.

    News Update - November 2, 1998

  • F.R.'s Tribute CD update of the submitted songs so far to the compilation are listed on the compilation page just in case you fear compitition and want to be original.
  • The first ever F.R.'s midi file has been created (by me and my friend Don) and can be found on the Misc page. This is the basis for a song that I'm submitting to the compilation (so don't f'n steal it!)

    News Update - November 1, 1998

  • F.R.'s Tribute CD submission date has been extended, just got this e-mail from Brado:

Submissions for the Forgotten Rebels TRIBUTE album must be in absolutely
no later than Nov. 30th, 1998. There will be no extension of this date
    for anyone.

  • I got this picture in my e-mail the other day. I remember buying one when they were on tour for Criminal Zero, but I didn't get mine signed.

  • I've put back up some tabs that were on the old pages. Also on the same page is the Forgotten Rebels screen saver.

    News Update - October 21, 1998

  • The weird Aerosmith gig is off! I just got this e-mail from Jeff about the gig:

No the whole HAMILTON MUSIC seminar has been
cancalled becausethe stupid Goo Goo Dolls wanted
more money up front and scared off the investors.

Oh well, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to see the Rebels after the album is finished.
I got an e-mail from Brado saying that the expected release date of the Forgotten Rebels Tribute CD will be expected to be out in the Spring 1999. So about the same time as the new album (what timing!!).

    News Update - October 20, 1998

    BIG NEWS

  • Ok, here's the news you've all been waiting for! The Forgotten Rebel's new album is almost done!

  • I just recieved an e-mail from Jeff with some more information about the new album. There is no title for the album yet and some of the songs don't have names but they are done the bed tracks and are doing the overdubs. If you look at the listings for the new album he has revealed some more names of new songs. He also revealed that there are going to be sixteen tracks on the new album.

  • One of the names of the songs is called 'Little Girl' which I find really strange since this name has already been used on Pride 'N Disgrace

  • I have put Spring 1999 as a release date, but this is just my predicition. This would also make it FIVE years since the last album, can you believe it?!

  • Oh, and this will be the first album that the Forgotten Rebels will own themselves because they are recording it themselves. Although I thought that they recorded if not their fist demo tape themselves but their first album themselves under a fake company name (B.S. Music/S & M Records)??

    News Update - October 16, 1998

  • News from Jeff himself that they have just finished the bed tracks and they are now doing the overdubs. He didn't specify whether these recording are the demo recordings that they are shopping around to record companies or whether it was the album itself. I'm still assuming he is talking about the demos they are recording.

He will be sending me a copy on tape of these recordings in December so get ready for new Rebels soon!!

  • A couple of changes to the Fan Club page has been made at the request of Jeff

  • Luc-A. has come through again for me and has sent me over the RED VINYL collectors edition versions of "In Love With The System" and "This Ain't Hollywood"!!!

    News Update - October 15, 1998

  • This would be one of the biggest updates that I have ever done to the web site in terms of news, enjoy! Maybe it's out of guilt from not updating the page in two weeks.

  • Updated the links section with a couple of new links.

  • I ran across a strange listing at a web page called Song Search which lists "Product ID:BCC0001120, FORGOTTEN REBELS, EXECUTIVE OUTCOMES/LP". Yes that's right, LP! I have e-mailed them asking them about this, but I think it's just a typo because they don't list the CD.

  • I've updated the Discography section with a bunch of the newer CD's (e.g. Reissues) with the song titles. No scans yet, but they will come, have patience.

  • I recieved this e-mail from our rebel friend Luc-A and I assume this was for general distribution, I will also add this in the trading section.

    Rebels fans from abroad...

please note that our VHS tapes are not compatible with European, Asian...machines. If you'd like the copy transferred from VHS to your system, it can be done in T.O. for about 20CDN$ / hour. Probably cheaper than in your country. So, if you order a tape, please take in consideration the cost involved in video transfer.

Still have a few copies of laminated inserts of "In Love.." and "Tomorrow".

I' ve been able to help fans locate copies of F.R. albums. If you need help get in touch.

    Cheers.

  • The bands are coming out of the woodworks! Another band has contacted me about covers of Rebels songs that they used to do. They used to cover "Rhona Barret" and "Me Generation". Here is some info about them, web page, e-mail:

  • It's catchup news day today!! I found by searching for "Forgotten Rebels", the recent interview with Mickey and Jeff in that German magazine all typed up! The name of the place is apparantly Punk Not Dead which led me to a site called S.C.A.B. which has this page which has the Interview in English! It also has the missing questions that were not translated when sent to me. :) They apologise to me because they stole some of my pictures off the my page (they actually apologize to Jeff?!?). I don't care. As long as they said they stole them off my page.

  • More info from Vic! :)

    Very obscure Forgotten Rebels sighting:
Chris Houston is listed as doing backgroung vocals somewhere on DOA's
    recent album "Festival of Atheists".

    Cheers,
    Vic
    ...provider of insignificant facts. :-)

  • E-Mail from Brado concerning the tribute CD:

    James,
I have just received a very impressive submission of THE PUNKS ARE
ALRIGHT by a brazilian band called the BLIND PIGS.
Due to exceptional circumstances, I have decided that all other bands
should be informed not to cover this particular song, because it has
    already been taken.
    --brado
Please post on the FR website. Thanks.

  • News from Vic, our roving reporter:

Talked to Donny Blais, manager of the Rebels. The Aerosmith thing is basically a rumour. The band will "likely" play the same festival but won't be on the same bill.

    Cheers.

    Luc-A. Lavoie.

  • Rockin' With Brucie on the Radio had this to say on the Forgotten Rebels e-mail list

    Mowat, Bruce (NT) - mowatb@scgmsnt.cmail.southam.ca

My stuff can be found on the www.canoe.ca site under Jam! Music every Wed.

  • I got an e-mail from Chris Houston a little while ago about his new CD. Here is the e-mail I got with a link to SuperMono Records Canada (but there is no information under Chris Houston):

Greetings From Pogo Au Gogo/ Chris Houston -

Just checking out your delightful website on my roomates computer.

Can you let the Rebels Fans know about my new CD -
    Chris Houston and Evil Twang.
    Released on Supermono Records.

There's a version of Surfing on it.
I didn't want to re-do it but Art Bergman made me.
Listen to my version, it rocks harder than theirs.
If you have a sick sense of humour that appreciates the finer elements
of Forgotton Rebelry, check out the tune Colostomy Bag.

I have a new band called Garnet Sweatshirt which features -
    in alphabetical order:

Randy Bachman (Yes that's right - BTO, Guess Who - he's heavier than you!)
Jon Card (DOA, Personality Crisis, SNFU)
    Basil Donavan (Blue Rodeo/Scab)
    Brian Goble (DOA, Subhumans)
Robbie King (Skylark, Poppy Family, Brian Adams, Average White Band)

Stay tuned - for "The Curse of Canadian Rock Star".

Some people get more punk when they turn 50.
Sitting on the west coast, I eagerly await what new sickness Mickey will present to the world,
with Steve Mahon in the band - the hairiest man in rock. With these two Einsteins at work,
there should be some new sickness to baffle all braincells.

If I'm not drunk, I'll use buckshot.

    News Update - September 29, 1998

  • I received an e-mail from the band who does the cover of "No Beatles Reunion". They changed the name to "No Pistols Reunion" to modernize the song a little bit. Silly me, I gave the Sex Pistols my money when they came to Vancouver, at least they thanked me for giving me their money! If you would like to get in contact with the band, their address is:

    Blind Pigs
    Caixa Postal 245
    Barueri, SP
    06453-970
    Brazil

Their home page address is: blindpigs.hypermart.net

You can tell by their new CD's title "The Punks Are Allright" that they are just a bit of a fan of the F.R.'s! :) I've also added their web page to the links section

  • Brado has informed me that this web page will be prominently (sp?) displayed on the release of the F.R.'s tribute album! I hope that the Rebels themselves don't forget the hard work I've put into this. I know I should put more work into it, but I do pretend to have a life.

  • I have been re-informed of a MP3 compilation CD of all the Forgotten Rebels material is in the works. I don't know if I have told everybody here before about it but it is the works. It's not me who's making it but I will keep everyone informed on it's status as it progresses. If you don't know what an MP3 is, go to this place and you can learn all about it. Basically you can have every song ever officially recorded by the Rebels on one CD! Playable only in a computer or a portable MP3 player.

    News Update - September 15, 1998

  • I just got another e-mail from Brado on the status of the 'Forgotten Rebels Tribute Album'. It looks like from what this says that you can just about cover any song you would like.
    James!

After a brief to the point meeting with Paul of Star Records (St. Catharines), we have decided to inform all bands interested in appearing on the FR tribute album to record approx. 3 final mix FR songs. A top three choice of what songs the bands would like to do, number one being their most preferred cut, followed by second and third best. I suppose some bands would not be able to do this, so I guess if they can only afford to do one song (or whatever) and send it my way, that's their choice. We will be accepting the cream of the crop, obviously. There is a tentative deadline: OCTOBER 31st, 1998 All bands will be notified as to their standings with this project ASAP. It appears the OTHER PEOPLE'S MUSIC own the rights, etc. to The REBELS material, so they will obviously helping with the process/project. Paul of STAR RECORDS told me he would be in contact with them regarding this sometime soon.
I also advise all bands to include a press kit my way, as well.

    News Update - August 30, 1998

  • I recieved in the mail from Ralf Shock of 3rd Generation Nation magazine the issue with the interview with Forgotten Rebels in it. The issue is "Sommer 1998 No. 12", it is a German magazine so 99% of the interview has been translated. Click on the cover to get a bigger view (that's not them on the cover). The complete interview in English can be found here. Don't worry Jeff, your copy will be on the way soon.

  • Thanks to a nice tip off from a reader I am now the proud owner of a first pressing of "In Love With The System", an almost mint copy. The only problem I can see is a slight yellowing of the record sleeve (big deal). It came with the newspaper insert in great condition so I will scan it all in and put it up in the discography soon, along with "This Ain't Hollywood"

  • I have updated the pictures section with all the pictures that I have scanned in at the moment. Don't worry, I'll add many more pictures soon.

  • A note to the person from Europe who ordered the Forgotten Rebels video tape that I offer with all the official videos. Please note that the video will be in NTSC format and not PAL (which is what I believe it is in Great Britain, correct me if I am wrong). You didn't provide an e-mail address so that's why I'm posting this here in hopes that you will read it. Please e-mail me if this is a problem. jeobrien@aceventures.com

    News Update - August 25, 1998

  • Well, if you phoned the Copps Coliseum about who's on the bill with Aerosmith on October 24th they will tell you Junkhouse. Jeff C. says that there are four opening bands scheduled for that night, of which one is Forgotten Rebels. But he also added "Nothings for sure in music." So be careful, you may have to sit through Aerosmith with no Mickey. Keep watching the page for updates on this.

  • The band is going into the studio this weekend to record a four song demo to shop around to record labels. Good luck boys! I will get more details on the names of the songs etc.. when info comes in.

    August 17, 1998

  • Get ready for this. The Forgotten Rebels are opening for Aerosmith!?! Yes check the gigs area for more details. Their first gig in over six months! Seems like an unlikely matchup but hey, the more people that get to see them, the more people will like them. I mean, who can't like Mickey. I just hope he doesn't say anything too outrageous (like he is known to do, just take a look at their interview on MuchMusic where he puts down Axel Rose of GNR). This show is supposed to be part of something called Hamilton Music Seminar. If anyone has more information about the Hamilton Music Seminar just drop a line.

  • Vic found this article on the web at a website call Campus Canada Caravan. It's short but it's a review of "Tomorrow Belongs to Us".

    July 27, 1998

  • Ok, cool news, Luc-A. Lavoie found me an original pressing of 'This Ain't Hollywood'. It's in great condition and I will be putting up info and scans of it very soon for the discography. He also gave me the scoop on all the pressings of 'This Ain't Hollywood' on vinyl.

    1. original 1st with insert "Daily Rebel" in 1980
    2. second without original insert but with Star Records flyer instead in 1986
    3. dud pressing on red vinyl. The plant had problems with the die and as a result all the test copies were returned for melting and repressing. Only 10 duds were kept by colectors. All others were returned. 1996
    4. last pressing on red vinyl. 1996.

Well, I have the first two and I am looking for the last two, especially #3, the dud copys.

  • I just happened to run across a CD (on the web) that a Forgotten Rebels song appears on, I found it on this page. The compilation is call "More Than A State Of Mind". Has anybody heard of it? Anyway, it has "Behind Bars" on track 5. Here's the breakdown of the CD.

If anybody has any more information on this CD, could you please forward the info to me?

  • I know converting over to the new web page has been slow but "I've been busy!" :) I've added a couple of things to the discography, but very few. This is what I will be concentrating on first on the conversion over. I have also brought over all of the articles and reviews.
    July 10, 1998

  • Welcome to www.forgottenrebels.com! I'm glad you stopped by for the opening of the site. The site has actually been up for two years at various locations on the Internet but it has now found its final home. There are a few new things and a few old things here, but I will be moving things over from the old quickly now that the URL is active. Please report any wierdness such as broken links (I hate those)..
    July 6, 1998

  • Well Mickey saw his first ever web page the other day. This one!! His comments were (these are edited for readability) "This is the first time that Mickey has seen a web page period, and anything on himself. He says he feels complimented. The Rebels are working on the CD right now!!!!!" It's always reassuring news to hear it from the man himself that the CD is progressing along. He also adds "The Rebels CD should be out later this year". So it looks like maybe third quarter instead of Summer but what's another few months when we've waited four years!!? As long as they don't rush it and put their all into it that's all I care about.

  • Mickey also says "He is working on a solo project. Who knows when that will be released". There have always been rumors of Mickey doing a solo project. Let's all hope it materializes!
    July 1, 1998

  • The address of the fan club has changed so go check out the fan club page! How many of you have actually signed up to the fan club? I'm sad to say that I'm just sending off my letter to it. I know it's pretty sad but better late than never!

  • Well the big news of the hour! (You would have known this a long time ago if you were on the F.R.'s e-mail list). Yes, the boys in the band is paying for the domain name of forgottenrebels.com!! The page will have a real official home! I'm already designing the new page but only people on the e-mail list get a sneak preview of it! :) Don't bother trying to type in the name yet because it's not ready to go yet! Let me just say the new page will look quite *sweet* IMHO.

  • New news on the Forgotten Rebels tribute album (p.s. I'm going to contribute a song):

At this point, I believe the FORGOTTEN REBELS TRIBUTE ALBUM is a go.  My friend Paul of STAR RECORDS, after my suggestion of a FR tribute, assigned me to help organize this CD project.  Paul used to manage the REBELS, and as far as I know, at least released the "IN LOVE WITH THE SYSTEM" CD.  Surprisingly, there has only been about 10 bands that have contacted me which are interested in being featured so far.  I have had the word put out in the following: EXCLAIM!, RHiG magazine (there are others that have been notified, but to date I have no knowledge yet as to if they have printed the info. in their publication) and the kind support of James O'Brien's Official FR web site.  If any one wishes to spread the word in any form, please do so.  I must discuss things with Paul of STAR RECORDS, particularly the licensing/publishing aspect of things.  I wish I could just let the bands all pick the song they wish to cover, have them record and submit it, but it's obviously not that simple.  I am currently trying to find out what we are allowed to do, and what we are not.  Maybe there are no restrictions.  Right now, I have received no word from my superior (Paul of STAR RECORDS) on what's going on, probably because he's checking it out for himself.  When I know, I will let everyone involved know.  I also want the FORGOTTEN REBELS blessing on the whole deal.  Hopefully, bands they love and are friends with will be featured, too.  Who knows, maybe even a couple bonus tracks by the FR themselves will be on it.  I plan on taking my time, and stress to everyone absolutely no rushing of all this, otherwise it's a waste.

I'm still working out the FR details, so we'll keep in touch by e-mail.  Just keep in touch with me, and I will with you, okay?  Cool.  Hey, let me know what's going on, okay?  In the meantime, if you want to send me any band press kit/promo. stuff, feel free:

  • Wow, this one is a catch! Luc has done it again, grab em while you can! This is also repeated in the trading section:

    Salut !

I had 10 laminated copies made of the insert that came with the Forgotten Rebels 1st Ep "Tomorrow Belongs To Us".  It is a black & white, 11 X 17 collage of the 3 band members.  Send 3$ for a folded copy ; 7$ for a rolled one.  Again, I'm not making a $ !

    Cheers.

  • I was also sent the scans of the single 'Bomb Khadaffi Now'. If anybody has the cover of this single, could you scan the front and back for me! :) I've also added the picture to the discography as well. Would anybody happen to have the original 'Burn The Flag' for scanning? (Haha)

  • I have moved old news into sections at the bottom of the page sectioned into years for convenience sake (and loading time)

    June 8, 1998

  • Another review of 'Tomorrow Belongs To Us' has been posted in the reviews section.

  • I just 'rediscovered' that I had scans from the original vinyl of 'This Ain't Hollywood' (this is the copy that I don't have). Here are the two pictures

  • The next big project for this page, is to put each of the albums on a separate page with all the info I have for each album

  • I also made a couple of small corrections to a couple of pages but not worth mentioning here.
  • Change your bookmarks! The new URL of this web page is http://www.aceventures.com/rebel/. You may have noticed yourselves being redirected when you came here so please change you bookmarks. If anyone wants to shell out the $70 US cash for 'forgottenrebels.com', this is where it's permanent home will be, I'm not joking about that. If you want to pay the $70.00 US I will move this site to www.forgottenrebels.com. Hmm.. maybe I'll talk to the band about this. :)

    June 3, 1998

  • Great interview from a German Fanzine that gives us some insight into the Forgotten Rebels new album!

  • In case you don't want to read the interview (you really should, I had to format the bloody thing!) some new song titles are "Dick Wart" (sung by Dave!), "Less Is Best" and "Dirty Dad".

  • I've dug up some more info on the band in the interview that does a slightly altered version of 'No Beatles Reunion' some more info can be found here and here
    May 19, 1998

  • I just received an e-mail today (what a saver for the news update!). It looks like a Forgotten Rebels tribute album is in the works! And here's your chance to be on it! If you want to find the info on the tribute just click on the link 'Top Ten List' (not the most obvious choice, but the info below is on there).

  • We have reached 5000 vistors, actually 5050 at last look! I would like to thank everyone for their input and support for the web page. I guess the next big hurdle is 10000 visitors. It's not as much as other web pages that get 1000's of hits a day but it's pretty damn good for a band that is *never* played on the radio/tv. :(
    May 12, 1998

  • The Rebels have been invited to play in Germany! More details as they come in. Nothing is set yet.

  • Yes, the web page is getting close to having 5000 visitors. I am planning to do a major URL submission to all of search engines soon so I can find more Rebels fans throughout the world.

  • I just got some e-mail from a source who has a lot of information and video/audio on the Rebels including a promo video for 'Surfin' On Heroin'!!! More details as I am allowed to release it.
    April 27, 1998

  • I've added the article from MaximumRocknRoll Issue 178 into the reviews section. (I know it's riddled with OCR errors, I will fix these up, It's just that's its 12:30 at night) You should definitly check out this article, it has a *lot* of information in it, also has a pic of Mickey!! I will get rid of the articles section and move the two articles in there into the reviews section next time.

  • All quiet on the western front about any new news regarding the Rebels...
    April 19, 1998

  • Not much of an update but I have some more time to spare after today, a big project of mine has just been completed. I made a minor update to the pictures page and added a few misc pictures. The pictures page will be categorized soon into relevant categories.

  • My next plan of action is to update the web page from all the info I have gathered from peoples e-mail.

  • Yes, long time no update, again. :)
  • Rescanned in the album covers for 'In Love With The System', 'Untitled', 'Surfin' On Heroin' and 'Criminal Zero' for Discography because I orginally scanned them from the tape versions and the scans sucked!!
  • Scanned in Executive Outcomes cover and updated info in discography.
  • Can anybody figure out what that silver and black image is on the CD of Surfin/Untitled??
  • Added 'Tomorrow Belongs To Us' CD Re-Issue to discography
  • Added two new reviews of gigs from Luc-A. Lavoie, thanks man!
  • Added a link for Links page, I'll be going through those and updated the whole works because I'm sure they are quite out of date
  • Added a review of Tomorrow Belongs To Us to the Reviews page by Vic! Thanks!
  • Will be adding many many more updates very very soon (I promise), I've got a stack of rebel info to go through, you won't be disappointed!

  • The counter got reset for some strange reason unfortunatly. Oh well. It was around 3500 hits so just add that to the total it's at now...
  • I got an e-mail from Dionysus Records about the release date of 'Executive Outcomes' (check Discography for an unofficial track listing). They said it will be out in the last part of February. Something to look forward to and to tide us over until the new album!
