Forgotten News 2000

News Update - November 1, 2000
  • What you're seeing on the right hand side of the screen is pages 1-2 of the inside of a Promotional CD distributed to select people. Click here for a large scale copy of pages 3-6 of the CD. This promo CD is full little tidbits of info I didn't even know. I will update the page to reflect this new info that has been brought to my attention. And for the first time ever, 3 of the tracks of this CD are off of vinyl that has not been converted to CD yet... "The Me Generation", "Don't Hide Your Face", and "Can't Wait". I will post more pics and info from this promo album as I get time.

  • A couple of new gig's have been added to the list for Toronto and St. Catherines, Ontario.

  • The vinyl for 'Nobodys Hero's' will be out approx November 7th, 2000. So all you collectors gather your money together!

  • Starting at the Lee's Palace on November 4th the Rebels are going to be recording their shows to compile the 1st ever LIVE REBELS CD!! Yes, after many, many years of hearing "Are the Rebels ever going to release a live album", your wishes are coming true. I'm sure they will strive to capture that raw laid back punk energy that Mickey exudes on stage and straight onto a piece on vinyl or plastic with his smiling face on the front. Quote from 'Boys Will Be Boys' - "Breaking bottles just to hear a smash on the track. Just to be part of the set."

  • The Rebels European leg of the Nobodys Hero's tour (does anybody have any dates/places for this??) went over amazingly well as usual. From the manager - "Europe, Apparently every show was sold out except one ! And the band said the best show was in ZURICH "Switzerland". They also got caught in a Palestine march/ riot in FRANCE !!! no one hurt" Glad to see the boys not trampled in a riot.

  • Video alert! The video for "American In Me" is to be shot in the next 2 weeks. I will provide updates as they come in when the Rebels will be able to be seen on a NotMuchMusic/eMpTyV channel near you.
  • There are no final dates for Ottawa/Montreal or Vancouver yet but.. very soon. I just hope they come out to Vancouver, I haven't seen them in four years... :( Did the Rebels play any non-european gigs in the month of October?

    News Update - October 11, 2000
WHERE DO I BUY NOBODYS HERO'S?

  • Here is where to buy Nobodys Hero's on the web! If you know of any other places on the web please let me know if you know of others, especially if you know where to get Nobodys Hero's on vinyl! You should be able to pick it up at any fine record store. It's distributed by OPM (Other Peoples Music)/EMI Canada if your record dealer needs more info.

Sam The Record Man - ($13.99US/$19.99CAN)
    CDPlus - ($13.33US/$19.99CAN)

  • Yes, as you can see on the right hand side, it's none other than the cover of Burn The Flag! Click on the link for a bigger picture of it! You must excuse the poor quality scan of it as it's the only copy I've ever seen of the cover, if you're smart, you'll know where I got the picture.. heh. If anybody knows where I can get a copy of this cassette, please contact me as it's the only official album of the F.R.'s that I don't have. If anybody has a better scan of it, please also forward that to me, thanks.

  • Updated the upcoming Forgotten Rebels tribute album with three new songs to be on it.

  • All I could find on the EMI site about the distribution of the F.R.'s new cd was on their new releases for September 19th.

  • I've updated ALL of the stores and pricing of albums on the Where to Buy F.R.'s album page. You can still pretty much get all the albums right now on CD if you hurry!

  • I updated the liner notes for the Untitled/Surfin' On Heroin CD.

  • Rumor Confirmed! - There are two lost videos! Both off of the coveted This Ain't Hollywood album! They are 'Surfin' On Heroin' and 'Eve of Destruction'. The new video listing can be found in the discography section of the web page which has also been updated with two compilation albums the Rebels appeared on and the THREE UPCOMING VIDEOS for the REBELS!!
    No Place to Hide
    The American in Me
    Hockey-Nite

  • I will be posting a track by track critique of Nobodys Hero's very shortly on the page along with anybody elses review that would like to submit it to me.

  • You wouldn't believe the amount of things I have in store for you F.R.'s fans in terms of info. I just have an overwhelming amount. To keep up with the latest gossip and information make sure you sign up for the F.R.'s e-mail list!! You will always get more info (and faster) than what is on the page.

  • The band has finally chosen their new bass player for the tour. His name is Shaun Mahar or T.T. for short.

  • The guys are feverishly rehearsing for the tour about two or three nights a week and have written seven new songs and already want to do ANOTHER ALBUM in about six months!! Maybe this is to make up for the six year hiatus between Criminal Zero and Nobodys Hero's. :)

  • Brado has sent me an update to the F.R.'s tribute album that you can check out here... the release date is Fall 2000 which would probably be shortly after the album comes out.

  • Jeff C. has informed me that he has a ton of T-Shirt orders that he needs to send out, so if you sent your money in and didn't get anything, have no fear, you will get one very soon...

  • Thanks to Joanne and Mike for the pic to the right!! I've got a lot more pics from Dean Kelly, Joanne and Mike and Shane that will go up very soon (how many times have I said that huh?)

    News Update - May 28, 2000

  • Ok, the big news first right off! The Forgotten Rebels are now signed to EMI. Jeff didn't say whether they were signed to EMI Canada or US or both. But they signed a deal with OPM Records (Other Peoples Music) with distribution through EMI. Here is the direct quote from Jeff Campbell about the release date of the new album and about their bassist situation too!!
We signed a deal with OPM records with distribution through EMI. They
gave us a great deal with tour and video support. The release date is
    Sept. 1st 2000.
Wow now things should start moving. We're practicing 3 piece which I
like but we probably will still try out some bass players.

  • If you Forgotten Rebels fans out there still don't know about the company Too North Records you must go visit them. They have had the best selection of Forgotten Rebels albums to choose from for a long time. I've bought a few albums through them and have been very very happy with the service. Just remember to click on the stop button to kill the annoying midi music :)

  • Here's another update from our roving reporter Luc-A to clarify a few things that may be outstanding about the band:
    Hello everybody,

On my way to see The Vibrators (Good show! Knox was flying on stage!
[If I look like that when I'm 55 I'll be a happy father of two!] Eddie was himself
-good- ; and the guy on bass fit right in.) I went to talk to Donny Blais and, at
the show, I talked to Jeff Campbell who was standing quietly at the back. What I
heard from both is "roughly' the same ! In summary :

-The new album shall be out by the end of the summer. (Jeff and Donny)
-As of now, Mickey is playing bass and this lineup suits everybody (Jeff)
-They are auditionning bass players. (Donny)
-The band will likely play Montreal and Ottawa this summer (Jeff)
-They had a good time in Germany and the band is going back later this year (Jeff and Donny)
-They will play Toronto after the European dates (Donny and Jeff)
-I shall see the band on stage before the end of the year. (Donny and Jeff)

    Yours,

    Luc-A. Lavoie.

  • Here is some news from a fan about some gig dates. Since the band doesn't keep me very up to date about the gig dates, please let me know when they are going to be playing.

Hi! Well as you know the April 29th show in Montreal has been postponed! I just spoke with their Manager and we're looking at the 3rd week in June (week-end) or 1st week-end of July for a Montreal show and Ottawa back to back. They still don't have a new bass player! That's been the problem. I'll e-mail you back with the real dates when we finalize everything. I'll even let you know the venues and addresses and phone numbers etc.. Because I'm the guy booking and promoting the shows and putting all other bands on the bill. Take Care Marc from SkidMarc entertainment.

    News Update - March 11, 2000

  • The graphic on the right was made by Jeff Campbell of F.R.'s to promote the bands new Fast Food Tour 2000! Just kidding, but it was made by Jeff as a joke. Here is the latest news on the album and the tour straight from the source! The gigs page has been changed accordingly as well:

    James,

Check out this fan letter. I sent it to Wayne Pine to put on the tribute CD. Well we have 2 offers on the table and were still going to wait incase we get other offers. We have approx. 2 more weeks to decide. We have a gig on April 29th in Montreal but we are not giging until the CD is out. We also have another week in Germany in September. Were still looking for a permanent bass player. Steve's not a punk. I never thought of Teenage Head as punk rock. I keep you in touch.

    Jeff

So as you can see, this is very very very cool news! I can't wait to hear the new album. So if any of you fans know all the Rebels songs on bass.... they're looking. :)

This is the very cool fan letter he sent along as well that's going to appear in the tribute CD (news on the Tribute CD below)

I read some pretentious, never been off of Queen Street "music expert's" review the other day in a Toronto rag. He boasted about some "ground breaking" local band that "weren't afraid to make a stand" I've heard this line before by the mainstream music press. I can guarantee they would be a bunch of little "How do I look? I just want to get fucked" dudes who probably think that Iggy Pop is a European drink or the Dead Boys are some Columbine High School victims.

If this "expert" had the balls to "make a stand" himself and forget his highest aspiration of becoming a VJ for Much Music he would write about the original Canadian "groundbreakers" The Forgotten Rebels.

I was blown away the first time I heard the Rebels. . I was fourteen, a freak chic, and so bored with life and the bullshit around me. I was listening to CFMU; McMaster University's radio station, when National Unity came on. The DJ says, "That's Hamilton's own, The Forgotten Rebels" HOLY FUCK, I thought, they are from Hamilton. These guys are brilliant!".. I went to Record World the next day and bought In Love with the System. I wrote their name on my jacket, went nuts collecting all their albums and EP's. I almost got kicked out of school when some prick teacher found out what these "punk rock" hoodlums stood for.

That's what I love about this band. It is that they know how to push people's buttons?HARD. They do it with a sense of humor and intelligence. They put it altogether with an awesome sound that shows their undeniable raw talent. Live, you are always guaranteed a great tight show. I could go for Mickey's jokes and outfits alone!

These guys are the ones who truly make a stand. In a day when political correctness has a strangle hold on the masses the Rebels will always stand out as a group willing to say FUCK YOU (and your twelve year old hot little sister)

    Vanessa Darling, Toronto, Ont.

  • And speaking of the Tribute CD, here is the latest from Mr. Brado himself on the CD:
The tribute should hopefully be sometime late 2000. I recently reopened the submissions for it, but it looks like everything will be filled up from the press and response I have received, so things look like they're wrapping up nicely. I hope to work with the band sometime in the near future regarding the insert artwork, liner notes, etc. Please update accordingly.

  • I have some upsetting news that I don't like to put up, but I think I will. I've had no trouble trading with him but two other people have had problems here are their notes:
    Hello James,

"Steve Dink", who you have listed on your trading page, is a pretty much a scumbag. This guy wrote to me, after seeing my list on The Trade, and set up a tape trade. He was real nice as we were setting up the deal, but of course was never heard from again after I sent him tapes and he never sent me anything. He just ignores emails now.

This guy is the worst sort of rip-off artists. He contacted multiple people with the intention of never sending his end of the deal. He even has the nerve to list the tapes sent to him on his public tape page.

I was told by Aldo YaBenti f_u_tv@hotmail.com that you have "Steve Dink" listed as a trader on your site, and did not want to note him as a bad trader. I can promise you that this guy is a 100$ jerk-off rat.

Don't let him use your page to rip other people off.

    Jeff Dove jeffdove@well.com

    and this one too...

    Hi James, how's it going?
I couldn't get into the Rebels website. I hope it's still up. Any news of live shows coming up in the near future?
But I'm mainly writing to let you know that Steve Dink ripped me and another person off for a trade. You have him listed on your page of Traders. I hope you will post this with his name. Don't take his name off, just keep it on so that everybody will know what an asshole he is. If you want, I can give you the full details of what happened with me. But here's mine and another guy's comments on Dinkhead.

I sent his tape 10/19/99 but never got mine. He finally replied on 1/18/00, saying he doesn't have a computer or VCR. Obvious BS.

    News Update - March 07, 2000

  • Greetings fellow F.R.'s fans. Long time no talk to, well. Not much has happened in the F.R.'s since last time but I've made an update to the site and a little bit of news from our friend Luc-A Lavoie, if somebody could e-mail me the date of the show that would be great!:

Got to talk to Donny Blais tonight.

The Rebels record is finished and they are "still !!!!" looking for a label to release it (seems like I have heard that for the past 3-4 years) ; it won't be on Donny's label. The band is looking for a new bass player as Steve is back with Teenage Head. The boys are playing in Montreal -The Jailhouse- at the end of the month ( would be cool if I could make it although unlikely ,with 2 toddlers) . They go to Europe after !!! Canadian dates to follow.

Hang on there. There's still plenty of life in those middle age punkers.

Montreal is their only date until they go to Europe. If you can, catch them at the Jailhouse. Donny said they will have more Canadian dates later this year. Seems an eternity since their last Toronto gig. Was it the Last Pogo, spring 98 ??

    L.A.L.

  • I've updated "The Pride And Discgrace" on CD page in the discography with the front and back cover of the album. You can click on them to get the HUGE high quality scan of it as usual.

  • I've got much more info to put up on the page and I will get to more of it this week as I'm working nights and I've got some more time on my hands for this.
