Gig Review
Saturday March 14th, 1998 - The Generator, Toronto, Ontario
Salut !
Last weekend I was able to find the energy to lift and carry me through
The generator's Last Pogo. What a blast ! Friday's headliners were
B.C.'s own Dayglo ; Saturday's and Pogo's headliners were local veterans
and legendary punkers The Forgotten Rebels. The Sinisters, Random
Killing and Liquor Pigs opened for the Rebels. At some point during the
Sinisters' set I had to get out. The Generator is a small club with a
fairly low ceiling. When Saint, the demented singer of The Sinisters,
set a plastic chair aflame, useless to say that the air was less than
healthy. Bring in this picture people on the sidewalk with their
drinks, police officers flocking around and the fact that the club is
just across Canada's largest mental helth facility and you then get a
fairly good approximation of the whole thing. Supremely entertaining !
The Rebels only played four songs. They opened with Bomb the Boats,
followed by In Love with the System and F.M. Dead. They closed with
Surfin. It's a good thing Mickey was in good form because I have seen
Jeff and Dave much more energetic in the past. I think Steve basically
provided the chords and the energy to help keep the set afloat ; he
certainly is an important asset to the band ! Rumours has it that Donny
Blais -owner of The generator and manager of the Rebels- will open a
new club very soon. The Generator is now history and so is the 1998
Last Pogo. It's all in my head ; but since I'm not always playing with
a full deck I made sure to capture most of it on tape. Just in case.
Hah !
Take care.
