Gig Review

April 3rd, 1997 - Mrs. Robinson's In Kitchner, Ontario

Hey everyone,

I saw the Forgotten Rebels play at Mrs. Robinson's in Kitchener last week.
Here's my review. James: please feel free to post this on the web page.

On Thursday April 3, 1997, I went to a bar in Kitchener Ontario called Mrs.
Robinson's to see my favourite band, the Forgotten Rebels. When I got
there, the first opening band, "Coyote Shivers" was already on. They were
pretty good....kind of a Stooges-type of rock band. It was good to see the
number of punks and skins out for this show. I grabbed a beer from the bar
and anticipated seeing the Rebels.

A little while after Coyote Shivers finished their set, the next band went
on. This happened to be another of my fave bands, The Sick Boys, who hail
from St. Catherines Ontario. These guys are always fun to see, and they
put on a GREAT show. Their music is a very energetic, fun, and upbeat
brand of rockabilly-influenced punk rock. I would definitely recommend
seeing them if you ever get the chance!

Finally, the Rebels went on stage, and the crowd was all ready for some
great tunes. It was kind of weird seeing them with their new bassist
(Steve Mahon, of Teenage Head) on the stage. But he seemed to do a good
job and could keep up with all of the Rebels' songs. The crowd began to
really get into it when Mickey would belt out some classic tunes, like Bomb
The Boats, Fuck Me Dead, and Third Homosexual Murder. About halfway
through the show, Mickey announced that they were going to play the
first-ever Forgotten Rebels song, which happened to be "You're a Rebel
Too". There was no mention of a new album in the works, but the Rebels did
sing one of their new tunes: Shame On You, which I really liked. They
played a couple of cover tunes like usual, including a Teenage Head number,
"Picture My Face", and The Stooges "Search and Destroy". Excellent show!
And of course, Mickey was up to his usual self with all of his rude
comments and jokes. For the ladies, he even took his shirt off (Yikes).
The only bad part was the few nazis who were acting like dicks and tryingto
cause trouble, so many other people were afraid to dance. And I think I
had a better time when I was them previously in Hamilton and Toronto.
Ohwell. I still enjoyed it.

Well, that's it for the show review. If you get the chance, go see the
Rebels sometime, if you haven't already!

Cheers!
