Gig Review
May 4, 2001 - Lee's Palace, Toronto, Ontario
Being a relatively new fan of the Rebels, thanks to a colleague of mine who
mentioned the song "Bomb the boats", I decided to check out the Rebels live.
Ok,. So being a middle aged businessman, and probably not your average
rebels fan, I appreciate the music with all its raw energy and loud sound.
First a little about the opening act.I was not impressed with C.J. Sleeze,
more noise than music, I wasn't sure if the lead singer was a girl or a guy
pretending to be a girl! No personal offence, but it really was hard to
tell.
The best part was when the guitarist at the end of the show alwmost burnt up
(thanks to C J setting him on fire) he got his t shirt off just in time.
On to the Rebels! Well, they opened up with Mickey singing loud and
clear. The Guitar player, was an Excellent guitarist, too. The bass player
didn't seem as excited, but he played well. It was well apparent that the
crowd were really enjoying themselves! The Rebels got on stage at about
12:20am and did two encores. The third song into there first set was Bomb
the Boats, a great sing a long song for the crowd! Mickey took his t shirt
off (early in the show), well that wasn't that appealing to me, but most of
the fans appreciated it.
Two encores were performed with the finale, and crowd favorite being,
"Surfin on Heroin"!
Mickey was kind enough to do a tribute song to Joey Ramone during the sets,
which I considered thoughtful.
Long live the Rebels and I can[t wait to see them Live Again! Till then,
"Bomb the Boats":!
Thanks to Lee's Palace for bringing them to Toronto!
